Marco Mancini is Professor of Linguistics at “La Sapienza” University of Rome and member of the Supervisory Board of Human Technopole Foundation from June 2018.
He was Chief Department of University, High Artistic and Musical Education and Research at the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) from 2013 to 2018.
He holds a degree in Literature and Philosophy and is Professor of Glottology and Linguistics at University of Tuscia (Viterbo) from 1987. He was Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the same University from 1996 to 1999, and then Rector from 1999 to 2013.
He was President of the Regional Committee for the Coordination of the Universities of Lazio (C.R.U.L.) from 2002 to 2006, General Secretariat of the Conference of Italian University Rectors (C.R.U.I.) from 2006 to 2011, and finally President of C.R.U.I. and C.R.U.I Foundation from 2011 to 2013.He was involved in many committees and working groups on research evaluation at MIUR and represented the same Ministry in national and international cultural organizations.
His main areas of interst are languages and philology of the ancient world, he studies historical and comparative linguistics both in the Western (Latin, Romance, Italic, Germanic) and Eastern (Iranian, Ancient and Medieval pre-Islamic, Hebrew and Aramaic). He is author of more than 150 publications, member of scientific societies and of the scientific board of numerous specialized journals in the field.
He managed many research projects receiving public funding. Mancini has the membership of the Academia Nazionale dei Licei and he was President of the Italian Institute for Africa and the East (IS.I.A.O).
